BSA and the attack of the activists

Please note that in this post I am not targeting the LGBT community as a whole, only the hard-line activist groups that claim to represent the LGBT community.

Over the last couple of years the LGBT activists have made it a point to target the Boys Scouts of America claiming that the membership policies of the BSA violate civil rights. I think there is a huge piece of this discussion that is missing from virtually every article and story about the Boy scouts and their membership/volunteer policies: Boy Scouts of America is a private, membership-based organization.

That means if you don't want to be a part of it, don't! Go find or start your own organization that meets your specific needs, and stop trying to change others policies. If you don't want your kid to play soccer with the AYSO because of thier rules, go play at the YMCA, or find another group to play with. Why should an entire organization change their rules for you? Why don't you go join Trail Life USA, a Christian alternative to BSA. Oh wait, you won't be able to... because they discriminate against homosexuals!

Boy Scouts is for the boys (and girls through the Venturing program) that we are trying to train up to be the next generation of leaders in this country. Please stop trying to push your political agendas on an organization that has worked for over 100 years successfully to educate, train, empower, and grow the strength and backbone of our nations success -- our youth.

Scouting teaches the youth and adults in the program the importance of being in service to others. The Scout Law says "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent." What are your values and how are you helping to promote a positive social agenda? So far the only thing the LGBT activists have been doing is to bully (I mean lobby) private community-based organizations into conforming to what they perceive to be their rights. But what about the rights of the organization and its members NOT to be part of the LGBT community?

It seems that the LGBT activists are doing everything possible to create a socio-political environment where being heterosexual is persecuted and looked down upon. That sounds a bit like a prejudice to me, and a violation of my civil rights. Maybe you should be more tolerant toward those who are straight and stop forcing others to be slaves to your will. Why do others have to accept you as you are, but you don't have to accept others as they are?

That said, if you keep your sexuality to yourself, and just focus on being a good role model for the youth, nobody will care if you are gay, straight, Christian, Jewish, purple, green, or whatever. The only impact you are having is to create unnecessary drama and conflict,  eliminating key funding and resources that have been helping to grow our nations youth for over a century.

There is no reason whatsoever for any discussion about a persons sexual preferences to take place around scouting youth or events. Period. If you are homosexual, keep it to yourself. If you are heterosexual keep it to yourself. Not one of these kids should to be having that type of conversation during any scouting related activity, and no adult should ever be having that kind of discussion with scouts or even other scouting parents/adults. Discussions on sex and sexuality are to be held in private by parent's and children when and only when the parent deems it necessary for this discussion topic to be broached.

Is there any other single organization present in this country that has contributed so successfully to training the youth of tomorrow? Which LGBT group has made such a positive impact on our youth? So far the only success I am seeing from LGBT activists is success in helping to remove funding for scouting programs, helping to dissolve decades old scouting relationships with charter organizations, and helping to leave the Boy Scout youth without the resources to continue growing and maturing in a time-tested positive environment.

Hats off to the LGBT activists for helping to dismantle the most successful youth program the United States of America has ever had.

  1. This country was founded by people who fled persecution. While there are individuals in our history and in current events who persecute, traditionally our government served and protected the rights of everyone. It is wrong for any group to oppress another in an effort to control, change or stifle the exercise of their God-given rights. In case there is any doubt, I'm siding with the right for a "private, membership-based organization" to conduct its own affairs without militant activist forcing their opinions on them.
